Suzanne Thompson bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

My name is Suzanne Thompson.  I enjoy photography, dining at non-chain restaurants, trying new vegetarian recipes, reading, blogging, and exploring new locations...the three most valuable are family, faith, and friends.

I was born in England, moved to Ethiopia when I was four, then to America when I was seven.  In American, I have lived in eight states.  Bob and I were married in January 2010 and we currently live in California and North Carolina.

First Injury

The ceiling drywall in the dining room, living room, kitchen, and halls came down today. Bob also loosened the wall between the kitchen and dining room, but as there was drywall everywhere, there was no place to put it. Bob also worked on removing some of the electrical and plumbing. Note the original Fridgedaire stove. [...]

Clean Up

The lake house interior has really been getting crowded, so today I went to Lowes and bought a dumpster bag. I then removed the big drywall pile from the living room and laundry room floors and carried outside to the dumpster bag. It looked so much better than the post from yesterday. Now we have [...]

No More Wood Paneling

We removed the wood paneling…must be original from the house being built as there was no drywall behind it. We also took down the four wood beams that had been installed with no structural need for them. It was also time to remove the dining room light fixture as I have hit my head on [...]

Bathroom Demolition

The shower and drywall from the downstairs bathroom got removed. Their was moisture damage behind the shower tile, so it definitely had to come out…not to mention that where it leaked backed up to an electrical outlet in the family room…Yikes! To the right of the photo is the large 40 year old heat/ac unit [...]

Bob’s Back Home

Bob arrived back from his trip to Austin, TX this evening…it was fun to show him the progress on our house while he was away. Here I am on the way to the airport to pick him up.

Bye Bye Mural

It was time to remove the mural which has most likely adorned the wall since the house was built in 1971. When the drywall was removed, we were surprised to see that the insulation was only R-7…not much by todays standards.

Kitchen Design

My hands were really sore this morning from all the crowbar use and scrubbing from a couple days ago, so Bob suggested I take a break today. I made an appointment to talk with an interior designer about our kitchen. It was so fun to see my Excel plan go into a CAD program, then [...]

Lots of Scrubbing

I worked on scrubbing walls, floors and doors; removed electrical plates to prep for painting; removed LOTS of nails and window treatment fasteners (sometimes three sets per window); put spakling in the nail holes; and moved all the tools into the workshop. Not much to photograph, so here’s some of the yummy berries I had [...]

Workshop

This morning, the floor didn’t look as good as I had hoped. The floor wasn’t all dry…I guess glue takes longer to dry. I got the shovel and scrapped all the lumps and through them away. I then used a bucket and rag to wash the floor…twice! The water had to be changed multiple times [...]

Scraping and Mopping

Bob had to fly to Houston today and will be there until Friday. He flew over the lake house and got this picture with his iPhone. Today, I decided to get the workshop floor finished as that is the last room in the house with carpets. I had taken out the brown/cream carpet and carpet [...]
