In 2005, Van and Pamela were working next to each other in offices at Harvard University. They were both post doctorates, he in biomathmatics and she in biology. Over time, he moved to Los Angeles and she moved to Portland, Oregon.
But distance couldn’t keep them apart, and this past weekend, Van and Pamela united their lives at Wayfarers Chapel with close family and friends. After the ceremony, everyone feasted on eleven courses at the Sea Empress in Redondo Beach. I enjoyed talking with Van’s mom and aunt, two southern belle’s from Memphis and Baton Rouge. Bob was in town this weekend so went with me. It turns out that Bob saved the day at the reception…no one could get the music started by plugging their Mac into the sound system. The groom had almost given up, so I told Bob and in less then two minutes, the sound of music filled the air. My philosophy is that a photographer’s job is to help out wherever possible to keep things running smoothly for the bride and groom…even if it means temporarily stepping out of the photographer role. A happy couple = happy photographs.
Thanks to Van and Pamela for letting us be a part of their special day. Thanks also to Shane Thompson, a fellow photographer from the [b]school, for letting me accompany him as a second shooter.
